Young Author

Tate participated in the Young Author’s program at his school.  Participation was optional, but Tate’s teacher really thought he should do it.  It was a bit rough getting started, as Tate had never written an entire story before and was having difficulty deciding what to write about.  Then Mama Meow suggested that Tate write about the turkey that hangs out near our house.  Tate thought that was a great idea and his story came together quickly…without any tears shed!  :)   I helped him sound out words and reminded him about grammar rules, such as “What makes that A in that word say its name?”, but I did not correct his spelling.  This is his story, and I wanted to be able to look back and see how well he did spelling words his way.  He turned in his finished book on Monday.  We’re not sure when he will get it returned to him.  I’m very proud of Tate.  He did a great job!

SPOILER ALERT!:  If you want to wait and see his book for the first time in person…don’t look at the rest of this post!  :)   For the rest of you, I hope that you enjoy Tate’s story.

Little League Parade – 2012

Erik and I are coaching the boys’ t-ball team this year.  We are the Bats.  Every year on opening day, there is a short parade through town and then each team has their first game sometime that day.  Opening Day was postposed one day this year due to unfavorable weather conditions.  So on Sunday, after church, we headed over to the fields to decorate our truck and trailer, and gather our team.  We ended up having a great day!

Coach Erik, the team, and our truck and trailer...all ready for the Opening Day Parade!

More posters.

And...more posters. :) These were for three siblings on the team.

Having fun in his first parade.

Last Wednesday

Sorry the posts have been few.  We have been busy with t-ball, school, work, playing, visiting, church, etc.  Last Wednesday, we were fortunate enough to have Mama and Papa Meow bring Aunt Beth over to visit with us.  They brought a delicious dinner, too!  It was great to visit with the three of them!  The only thing that would have made the visit even better was if Uncle Jay and Caitlin had come, too!

Mommy had to take Cade's picture with his egg creature before he got made into egg salad...the creature, not Cade...although Cade is a bit of an egghead at times. :)

Chase’s Baptism

On Sunday we attended the early church service at Trinity to witness Chase’s baptism.  Erik and I are honored to have been asked to serve as Chase’s godparents.  It was nice to have family and friends gathered together for this special occasion.  Welcome to God’s Family, Chase.  We love you.

Another wonderful boy for us to love!

Boys must be in God's plans for us. We have two boys of our own...and I am godmother to 3 boys and Erik is godfather to 4 boys! We love our boys! (We have to visit with the Nemeth, Vandercar, or Rockhill families to get some time with girls!)

The boys

This boy has been extremely silly lately.

This is Cade last week after an incident while playing outside earlier in the day. He was pushing (racing) a Tonka bulldozer down the driveway. The truck stopped when the front bucket stuck on a crack in the driveway. Cade did not stop. He flew over the truck and landed face first. The big scab on his forehead is on top of the scar he has from getting stitches last summer after hitting his head on the fireplace. The good news, he didn't do any more damage to his teeth.

The whole thing didn't really bother him much. :)

April Camping Trip

Last weekend we packed up on Friday and headed to Potato Creek State Park to camp for the weekend with Gramma Steph and Grampa Elden.  Uncle Chris and his friend, Mike, happened to have planned a trip to Potato Creek for the same weekend, so we got sites next to each other.  The prediction was rain for most of the weekend, but it ended up that it rained early Saturday and then was dry the rest of the day.  We cooked over the campfire, went on bike rides, took trips to the playgrounds, napped, colored, played, visited, read, and enjoyed our time together.  The campground was not busy and was nice and quiet (except for our boys), which was a nice change from our usual camping trips when the campgrounds are usually full.

Ready to head out on a bike ride.

Checking out the critters at the nature center. I think there were turtles in each of these two tanks. Other tanks held frogs and a snake.

The boys roasting their own hot dogs.

Drinking a beer and roasting a hot dog over a campfire...does life get better than this? Actually, Tate grabbed the roasting stick a little too close to the cooking end and burnt his hand. Daddy gave him a cold beer to hold to help sooth his hand.

In 15+ years, when my son is sitting by the fire drinking a beer...I have a feeling he will still look like this to his mom.

We celebrated birthdays while we were camping...Gramma Steph and Daddy on Friday and Uncle Chris on Saturday. Gramma brought cupcakes for Uncle Chris.

Saturday night we went to Mishawaka to watch Aunt Cori skate. Unfortunately, her team didn't do too well. We did get to visit with Cori and Edo for a short while after the bout. Aunt Cori had to tackle Cade to get a hug.

These days, Cade runs FROM Aunt Cori and runs TO Uncle Edo. :)

No pictures from Sunday.  We got up and took our tent down right away.  We had just gotten packed up when the storms rolled in.  The rest of the morning included rain, with a short shower of hail.  We sat under Grampa Elden’s canopy or in Gramma and Grampa’s camper.  We did some visiting, coloring, reading, etc.  There was a break in the rain at around noon, so we loaded up our bikes and took off for home.  Despite the rain, it was a fun weekend!

Family Express Field Trip

A little over a week ago (yes, I’m that far behind in my blogging), Cade’s class took a field trip to the Family Express warehouse.  The warehouse includes a distribution center and a bakery.  Mommy had asked Cade who he would like to take him on the field trip…Mommy, Mama and Papa Meow, Gramma Steph, Daddy?  Cade chose Daddy.  Daddy took the day off work and spent the day with Cade.  The field trip to Family Express only lasted about an hour, but then they ran some errands in Valpo before coming home.  I’m glad that Daddy was able to share in the experience with Cade.

Happy Baptismal Birthday

On Monday, we celebrated Tate’s baptismal birthday.  After dinner, we lit his baptismal candle, sang to him, he blew out his candle, and we ate some special desserts.  We love you, Tate!  May God continue to bless you with his great riches!

God has blessed this boy...and we are blessed to have him.

He didn't let his candle burn long. As soon as we were done singing to him, it was out!

Yummy! Tate celebrated with a brownie that his godmother, Aunt Peggy, had made for him.

Happy Easter – 2012

We woke the boys up at a little after 5:00am on Easter morning.  They quickly searched for their Easter baskets before getting dressed.  Tate asked, “Why are we going to church in the middle of the night?”  We were on our way to church by just after 5:30am, and the sun was starting to light up the sky.  We enjoyed a beautiful sunrise service at our church, followed by the annual Easter breakfast and Sunday School.   From there, we drove to Mama and Papa Meow’s house, where we met up with family and friends for lunch, egg hunts (for both little and big kids), playing, watching golf, and visiting.  It was a great day!

I found a colorful egg...oh, wait...that's Mary.

Kailynn found all of her pink eggs and was wondering what was taking everyone else so long.

Chase and Uncle Ed got to meet for the first time on Easter.

Aunt Rosie got in a little time with Chase, too.

We had a wonderful, blessed Easter and hope that you did, too!

Pre-Easter Activities

Mommy and Daddy needed to go work on the baseball fields Saturday morning, so the boys spent the night with Mama and Papa Meow.  Mama planned all sorts of activities for the boys.

Mama Meow made the boys bunny pancakes for breakfast!
