Antique Questions Forum / Re: Help with straight razor
« on: January 27, 2010, 04:25:09 pm »
If seems that if the mind can imagine it, there's a forum for it.

And here's a forum for straight razors:

http://www.straightrazorplace.com/forums/razors/

Might get some help there.

www.gunbroker.com is to firearms what eBay is to everything else.

Check out the following link for auctions of the DWM Luger:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/SearchResults.aspx?Keywords=dwm+luger

Look at auctions that have the shortest amount of time left and already have some bids and you'll get an idea where you stand.

You might also check Wikipedia for historical articles on the Luger, DWM, and the 9mm round.

There is also the Blue Book of Gun Values, but I wouldn't put much stock in value guides as they often are inaccurate and don't reflect current real time sales.

It's a common name.

Could this be your guy:

Looks like he does religious art.

I think KC is referring to Shack's in MA at the following link:

http://www.shacksclothes.com/womens.php

But I also found Shack Inc in NYC:

http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7113048/new_york_ny/shack_inc.html#profileTab-reviews

When you click on the website link you bring up a photo of a room with vintage clothing on the left.

But when you explore the site, it becomes rather confusing.

However, there is a phone number. Anyway, it's a lead.

If you have a macro setting on your camera, you should be able to get a clear close up of the mark within a couple of inches from the lens.

If no macro, try cropping just the mark and then resizing it to a larger resolution.

Sears sold a wide variety of sporting goods and recreational equipment, including bicycles, firearms, baseball bats, etc, under the J.C.Higgins. It's likely that all of that stuff was manufactured by other companies under contract with Sears, just like many of Sears products are manufactured today.

Several J.C.Higgins bats are currently on eBay with asking prices of $10 to $50:

Antique Questions Forum / Re: Another Native American sculpture

You're probably looking at $50 to $100 for that one.

Even though a particular artist might make a limited run, there are thousands of artists turning out hundreds of thousands of bronzes.

One store on the internet boasted 3000 bronzes in stock.

I'd call that saturating the market with a supply much greater than demand.

Believe me, I know what it's like to have nice, quality pieces that aren't worth much but I keep them because I like them.

According to my google search, yours is one of thirty produced by the artist:

http://www.google.com/search?rls=ig&hl=en&source=hp&q=peter+fillerup+%22quick+draw%22&aq=f&aql=&aqi=&oq=

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that you can get the prices unless you are a paid member of the auction websites.

However, the artist appears to be alive and kicking and still in business.

Maybe he'll tell you what they've been going for if you call up and ask:

http://www.wildwestdesigns.com/

I'm guessing between $500 and $1000.

I suggest you google and ebay each item individually and see what the asking prices are.

I did that on a few from your list:

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=political+button+roosevelt+truman+1944&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=political+button+truman+barkley+1948&_osacat=0

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=political+button+stevenson+kefauver+1956&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=political+button+landon+1936&_osacat=0

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=political+pin+taft+1908&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=political+buttons&_osacat=0

I'm guessing that, like most memorabilia, you'll have a handful that carry pretty good prices but most are likely to be a few dollars each, especially the more recent ones.
