Antique Questions Forum / Krieghoff Drilling
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:01:50 am »
A friend of mine has a Krieghoff Drilling with beautiful silver inlays of upland birds, etc.  The walnut stock and forearm are in very nice shape for it's age.  There is a door in the top of the forearm for two shotgun shells and one highpower cartridge.  There are two exposed hammers topside.  His Father brought the gun back from Germany after the war years ago.  The shotgun barrels are NOT demascus.  The rifling is very sharp on the underbarrel.  I always thought these were designed for boar hunting in Europe.  Anyone have any thoughts as to value?  I'm no expert but I would say the gun is 85%++.  Sorry, I was just able to see the gun in his office and didn't have my camera.

Antique Questions Forum / Anyone have a clue who's mark this is?

I've researched Apollo and nothing looks quite like this.  There is one with a box surrounding the name "Apollo".  This is a small box and it's not sterling.

Antique Questions Forum / Last Native American bronze.
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:28:31 pm »
This one is unsigned or numbered.  I think it's older than the other two posted.  I mounted it on a redwood slab and it hangs on the wall.  Anyone got a clue as to artist or any other info?  I don't believe it's one that was mass produced.

Antique Questions Forum / Another Native American sculpture
« on: January 20, 2010, 03:49:43 pm »
This one stands about 6" counting the spear.  Riley is the artist and he is unlisted.  Very well done and well detailed.  Dates in the 1970's.  Very tough to find out anything regarding Riley except he lived in Oklahoma.  It too is numbered.

Antique Questions Forum / I always liked Native American bronzes.

This is a quasi-vintage sculpture (mid '80's) from a listed artist (Peter Fillerup).  It's numbered and dated.  It stands about 10" tall and is very heavy.  Any ideas of possible appreciation or current value?

Antique Questions Forum / A doll bed?
« on: September 19, 2009, 04:09:29 pm »
I don't know if it's a commercial doll bed, salesman sample or home made.  I think it's made of walnut.  I know it to be old.  No maker's marks and straps for slats.  Anyone have any idea of worth and/or age?

Antique Questions Forum / Found an interesting print.

The title on the bottom is "The Old Depot".  It also says "Compliments of Union Switch & Signal a division of Westinghouse..."  The artist is Poage and dated 1930.  I haven't seen one of these in many many years.  It's kind of zaney and it's full of very small details.  Original frame and glass.  Any comments or historical information?

Antique Questions Forum / Mexican or Navajo?
« on: September 03, 2009, 04:21:36 pm »
My inlaws bought this blanket in the middle '40's.  They made a road trip to Mexico but passed through Arizona and New Mexico.  I'm not sure if it's wool or cotton (if wool it's very soft).  It is heavy and appears well made.  No tags of course.  It doesn't appear to be the normal looking Mexican blanket but I'm just guessing.  What would something like this be worth in today's market?

Antique Questions Forum / Are brass beds out of style now?
« on: September 02, 2009, 04:46:23 pm »
Always wanted one.  This fits a double bed and it's the fanciest one I've seen in a long time.  I'm not sure if it came over in a containerized lot from the UK or if it's American.  What do you all think?

Antique Questions Forum / What's a cobbled old lamp really worth?
« on: August 03, 2009, 02:53:39 pm »
I have several that I "assembled".  Very old bases and shades but didn't come that way.  Some are old bases with newer leaded glass shades.  Beautiful Bradley & Hubbard on eBay but the shade isn't signed.  That to me is a cobbled lamp.  I asked the seller if the shade was signed and he responded with a negative but didn't post the question.  Many times the glass shade and base separately are fairly expensive to puchase.  Should it be left to the eye of the beholder or should one be so honest as to drive people away? ???

Antique Questions Forum / Are these prints still common in shops?
« on: June 30, 2009, 08:24:31 pm »
This was bought about 40 years ago I think mainly for the frame.  My folks bought another similiar frame with a young lady standing in waiting.  Are these still fairly common?

Hopefully, it will be fixed soon. It has been fixed.:o

Antique Questions Forum / Are old picture frames worth much?
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:56:46 am »
As I've stated before, frame shops charge an arm and leg (or your first born) to frame anything.  This frame my folks bought about 40 years ago in an antique shop.  It measures approx. 43"X33" OD.  It's not mint but again, for it's age not bad either.  While the picture is cool, it's just a print on some kind of solid cardboard.

Antique Questions Forum / Old andirons

These were bought in an antique store over 40 years ago.  They're all brass (even the base) and are very heavy.  Anyone have any ideas on age and country of origin?  I guess while I'm at it, anyone have any thoughts on worth?
