Antique butcher block... cash or trash?
« on: November 09, 2012, 09:44:04 am »
I need help figuring out if this butcher block is an antique or not? In other words, is it cash or trash? I'm wondering what a "ballpark" value would be for it. If it's no good, I'll break it and use for fire wood.

Also, should I refinish it to increase it's value? I could do that too.

Thanks!

Cash, not trash !! I personally would just lightly sand and oil it !!  More for cleanliness than anything else !! Don`t try to remove all the signs of age !! Before that, 2 tbsp bleach in a quart of water and spray and clean well !! Wood holds all kinds of bacteria if not cleaned regularly with disinfectant !!

Thank you Mart. Any idea of the value of it when cleaned up? If it's only $50-$100 it's probably not worth the time/effort.

Thanks again

That should be an "easy" sale for say $350 without any cleaning up.

Place an AD in your local paper because those are like trying to move a piano. One needs a pick-up truck and a helper to "get er dun".

Here is one on E-bay.

And here are a bunch more.

Your block looks like the one we have in the middle of our kitchen. It's probably the most used item in the house.
If you decide to clean it up, use "Food grade mineral oil" to keep it from drying out.
Depending on size, price it at $250 to 400 for a quick sale.

Thank you for the help. I will definitely restore it and ensure it has a good home for many years to come.

Wow! Thanks for posting the butcher block table. Had no idea the value would be so high. Will keep an eye out from now on for sure.
