Beautiful Antique Chinese Jade Carving
« on: July 31, 2009, 02:22:06 pm »
We know very little about this piece but think it is Chinese and made out of Jade.

It has 2 monkeys, 1 Deer, 3 birds and what we think is a squirrel or a beaver. All of the Pots are completely hollowed out.

Any information pertaining to the time this piece is from and the value would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Someone went to a whole lot of work! Wow!
I'll ask the question that came up on another jade post here- Does it feel warm or cool to the touch?

Cool little carving .
I especially like the bird biting the monkey-butt .

Some of the drilled holes in your piece are somewhat 'triangular' .
This effect (undesired) is generally caused by a drillbit 'walking' around some , usually due to loose bearings on an electric-powered drillmotor/drill press ... although it can also be caused by not applying enough pressure on the item being 'worked' .

This is an indicator , to me , that power tools were used in the production of your piece ( versus completely hand-carved ) .
