Antique Questions Forum / Re: Tin Ceiling Tiles
« on: April 15, 2010, 04:46:38 pm »
Thanks everyone.

Railman, I think you make a good point about selling the lot. The room they're in is about 60ft by 30ft so as long as someone doesn't want to do a room larger than that, it would work. Any ideas what something like that might sell for?
In my neck of the woods if they're in respectable condition,  they would not be cheap in that quantity.  I don't believe it's something that would fly off the shelf but, when the right person comes along, 'Katy bar the door'.

Depending on condition, to me, it looks like good property at the right price.  Keep in mind tin ceilings are reproduced which proves people still find the look appealing.  The only problem is the lot needs to be large enough to start/finish a room in question because finding exact duplicates would be very difficult.  I would avoid selling them individually.

D&B, I'm sure you're getting the best care.  This, as you know, is nothing to mess with.  Follow the doc's orders and keep a stiff upper lip.  We all miss your expertise.

Antique Questions Forum / Krieghoff Drilling
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:01:50 am »
A friend of mine has a Krieghoff Drilling with beautiful silver inlays of upland birds, etc.  The walnut stock and forearm are in very nice shape for it's age.  There is a door in the top of the forearm for two shotgun shells and one highpower cartridge.  There are two exposed hammers topside.  His Father brought the gun back from Germany after the war years ago.  The shotgun barrels are NOT demascus.  The rifling is very sharp on the underbarrel.  I always thought these were designed for boar hunting in Europe.  Anyone have any thoughts as to value?  I'm no expert but I would say the gun is 85%++.  Sorry, I was just able to see the gun in his office and didn't have my camera.

Per the 'experts' on the Antique Road Show, the original toy pieces fit like a glove while the repros are rougher.  Iron toys have been reproduced quite a lot over the years.  If yours are originals, they are very good property.

How about a scan from your new found photo?

Price has always hovered where demand and supply meet.  Where the two intersect is where the price can be found.  This has always been a difficult concept for many to understand.  If there's no demand, rarity means little if anything.

I'm somewhat of an expert on Emerson brass cage/blade fans.  Your's is a General Electric.  Restoration of brass fans doesn't harm the value, in fact, it increases it.

I think it's a vehicle rear light jerry-rigged to a stand.  I could easily be wrong.

Very nice lamp.  If it's signed (shade and base) it's worth between 350 to $500 if there are no cracks or breakage in the slag glass and has its original socket(s).  B&H shades are signed on the inside bottom of one of the metal pieces holding one of pieces of slag glass.

I think I'd keep in an airtight bag (away from all moisture, insects and sunlight).
