Help with old Illustration
« on: October 02, 2012, 06:48:23 pm »
Hi everyone....I recently acquired a few old advertising illustrations from the Cities Service gas station chain.  I have spent tens of hours trying to figure out who the artist might be, but so far have come up empty.  Would anyone have a guess, a thought, or an idea as to who the artist might be?  I would sincerely appreciate any help....

Where were these stations located statewise ???  Was that the name of the company or is Cities Service Stations a sub of a larger company ??

Looks like Norman Rockwell, or at least a lesser artist that was hired to imitate Rockwell's popular Saturday Evening Post magazine covers, with a gas station spin!

Going off of the LHT part, it does have a similar look to Harry Laverne Timmins. But I have no idea if Mr. Timmins ever did work for gas companies. Wasn't Citco the parent corp of Service Cities which owned Super 5-D back in the day?

Timmins looks like a likely suspect.

Thanks for the artist suggestions.....I will research and let you know!

As far as Cities Service goes, I believe the were bought out by Citgo in the 1960's.

Thanks again!
