Hi there! I saw two larger versions of this dog at an antique fair last weekend, and was too stupid to go see who made them. I feel like it should be easy to find one like it online, but I am having a lot of trouble IDing him. He's so cute! I was guessing late 40s, early 50s maybe? Please correct me if I'm wrong and share any info you all might have on him!
He has a small tag on the bottom that says JAPAN
He is about 9.5 inches tall.

With the tag saying only Japan the companies are to numerous to count , from the application of the eyes & eyebrows appears to me to be a carnival toy won playing a game I would say 60s - 70s . Not very good quality or much value but cute none the less ;) But lets see what the others think.

i would agree with Wendy !!

A Japanese joke, wi a tartan bunnet on its heid..... :D

Hey Wendy !! Does this little dog remind you of Lady and the Tramp ??
-
No if any pup from lady & the tramp would be to wear a tartan bunnet on his wee heid ( my best impersonation of bigwull ;D) it would have been Jock scottie http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lady-and-Tramp-Jock-Scottie-dog-T-shirt-Iron-5X7-/300368759004

That is definitely a early sixties or late 50s carnival toy. My wife has several boxes of prizes from the Atlantic City Boardwalk from then. The eyes are exactly the same. Hers is blue if I remember. Some were made of Naugahyde. She has a bunch of them too. Many came from the Knickerbocker Toy Company
