I'm curious if any members here are hip to the dates that these little fellers were manufactured ... no luck in my research on that question so far .
Apologies for not bein' an antique item !
It's an Austrian Xythos 'automatic' pin-fire 6-shooter (2mm pins/primers) , shoots 9mm signal-flare 'units' .
Thanks in advance for any input , folks !

I think they are still being manufactured... since they are readily available... this particular model kit started in the 1970's I beleive...

basically... it shoots 2mm rounds which are hardly deadly under any circumstances...
the kit that fancypants have has a flare attachment... so the 2mm round powers the 9mm flare... which are actually relatively significant...

I'd say that this little fart-blossom 'pistol' is as dangerous as any pin-fired 'handgun' , and does not fire projectiles as such , but it does toss some superheated & exploding gunpowder down its' snout ; it acts , when fired , exactly as shooting a 'blank' cartridge down a guns' barrel .
The said firey blast goes down the tiny barrel (which is threaded to accept a 9mm flare cartridge 'chamber/launch pad') and ignites a chambered flare 'round' , which releases brightly glowing burning propellants & colorful bits , which can burn one's little eyes out ..... kinda like some skyrockets that one may have released by hand , in their youth ... the actual flare cartridge is cased in aluminum & by a gen'l vote of observers , flys about 120 to 150 ft.
These little fellows were hoped to be a popular item , esp with skiers/campers/boaters , and considered highly portable .
I've got yellow, red , white & green flares in this one , which was handed to me as depicted , except for the fact that the 'cylinder' was fully loaded with the primers ... immediatly replaced the loaded one with the empty 'spare' cyl !
I wouldn't let a young kid play with this one !

Here in the UK...having this in your possesion.without a firearms certificate..weathe r its in your pocket or under your bed...carries a mandatory 5 years prison sentence...makes me sleep easier....

I took a boo around last night but didn't find any reference to manufacture dates.
I sure wouldn't want to see one of these in the hands of the 'tweens' that hang out around my workplace. But I wouldn't mind using one on them. Hmmmmmm, wonder just how 'illegal' they are here?? ::)

Sapphire - These are considered "blank" pistols, in that they do not fire a projectile. I guess you could use one for starting races or whatever else you need a loud noise for, or slip it in your pocket to scare dogs away. Perfectly legal.

Not originally from Texas (but born Southern). Have several guns...but am a true conservative! When raised in the country you learn to appreciate them!
Such a novel gun! However, it does appear it would have more flash/effect than it is worth.

They may be considered legal in America, but by the mere fact that it discharges out the muzzle,which then propels a phosphorus flare into the sky... makes it illegal here.....and long may our strict gun laws remain,I can,t get my head round...This insane law where everyone has the right to bear arms,

Lots of folks in the U.S. don't have the ability to legally own firearms , bigwull !
In general , flare guns are legal to own here (by those old enough to) , but can be considered concealed weapons in some climes/circumstances .
We've got some large predators roaming around here in the Pacific Northwest (even in the cities) & often just a loud sound can drive them off ... one local rationale for gun ownership ... but there's thousands of reasons that Americans rather cherish their right to bear arms (esp if it's government gets too big for its' breeches) .
I'm an avid target shooter , since childhood , with zero 'accidents' (caused by yours truly , that is) .
Radical middle-of-the-road conservative liberal here !
So what happens if you're out in a sinking boat , bigwull .... do you have to use flashlights & book matches ?

Just now, I was looking for information regarding an artist in an unrelated thread...and came upon the story of the 85 year old great grandmother that was "bludgeoned" to death in her home in England a few weeks ago.
Even if firearms are banned, anybody with a sinister purpose will find a replacement weapon to use.
I'd rather have a gun to protect myself as opposed to a "short stick".

I am a firm believer in everyone having a gun and knowing proper gun use !! it will not stop things like that from happening,, but it will at least even up the odds !!

I do know that here, if you fire a starters pistol from a moving vehicle 'at' a person, you will be charged (if they find you). Not sure what the charge would be though, other than being guilty of scaring the crap out of them. ;D

the thing is with a starter pistol or blank pistol,, they look the same as a 22 or 32 cal. pistol !! Would give you a heart attack if you didn`t know or get your butt shot in return !!

Try living in Philadelphia, lol Crime capitol of the country! I happen to own a gun, but I don't have a permit to carry. If your in my house and you don't belong in here I'm okay. If you carry without a permit you have problems. In the state of Penna. if you commit a crime witha gun or caught a non registered gun it's a mandatory 5 years. The problem in this city are the illegal guns. In the inner city here there are shootings in playgrounds, shootings on street corners, shootings in robberies. You could be sitting outside and be hit by a stray bullet. We know a family who's son was a police officer. My son played hockey against him. He was shot dead yesterday. The person shot his dog too! Guns in the hands of the wrong people are dangerous.
