We are not clairvoyants,or magicians,....and the chances of anyone knowing who this guy is...well, let me put it this way, ..if the man with the know it all book,does,nt know...then..what hope is there for us... ;D

Looks Dutch ca.1500 like Van Eyk , but don't know for sure.

Not Dutch...Flemish...h e was born in the province of Limburg...in Belgium.and died in Bruges....

OK was the question "who painted this?" Or "which province did he come from?"

I won't say that this is definitely Van Eyk but I have yet to see anyone come up with a better guess.

Reminds me of the work of  Hans (the younger) Holbein? I'm just guessing. ::)

At least I think I know who the subject was...

If it is a print many times the name of the piece and the artist will be on the lower border as well as the printmaker or publishing company !!  That would be if it wasn`t trimmed !! But you would have to take it out of the frame to see !!  Is anything on the back ?? I have seen a few on the back under the dust cover !!

Thank you for your help.

Rauville ,your suggestion of the subject sent me in the right direction.

I found the artist through that.

It was painted  by Quentin Matsys in 1517. He was Dutch.

I like the subjects face very much and find it amazing that in 600 years
a scissors is still the same.
