anybody know if this is an ornament for the christmas tree? Has a milk glass look/feel but the marking isn't anything I know
-
Is it glass ?? Looks like Imperial`s mark IG !! How big is it ?? Looks like a soap dish or spoon rest to me !! But soap dishes didn`t usually have the hole to hang it,,spoon rests did though !!
-
hello mart-=
it is five inches long and 3 inches wide, why would it have the hole in the middle on top of it?
-

Here is the mark !! Scroll down to the Imperial mark under the OVG mark !! Yes, like I said above many of the spoon rests did have a hole to hang them,,not sure why,,no one ever used themif they were used as a spoon rest !! But a few (my mother included) used spoon rests as decoration in the kitchen !! Maybe they were dual purpose !!

Milk glass actually came in colors other than white !!
-
by george I think you've got it thank you mart

Ha !! That last link actually says wall decorations too !! I guess my mother wasn`t all that wrong !!

Mart,
When you think about it, most of the time we don't use the spoon rest and it gets in the way, either on the stove or taking up space on the counter. The easiest and handiest place to keep it is in within reach on the wall or put on the back of the stove (above where the controls are). Like trivets, they've evolved over time to become decorative as well.
-
If I need one I usually just sit a saucer on the stove !! But everyone used to have at least one spoon rest !!
-
MART--I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE YET ANOTHER 'ASH TRAY'
even if you're all being nice and finding different uses
-
thank you dogaman, that was so perfect I amazed you found this-and its a set....
-
Sugar,
No problem. I learned something, too!
-
You might be surprised at how many times these things were,,repurposed !!
-
In my house if it was on the counter it would have held a paper clip or 2, or a plastic rubberband and some change. ;D
