Is it glass ?? Looks like Imperial`s mark IG !! How big is it ?? Looks like a soap dish or spoon rest to me !! But soap dishes didn`t usually have the hole to hang it,,spoon rests did though !!

hello mart-=

it is five inches long and 3 inches wide, why would it have the hole in the middle on top of it?

Here is the mark !! Scroll down to the Imperial mark under the OVG mark !! Yes, like I said above many of the spoon rests did have a hole to hang them,,not sure why,,no one ever used themif they were used as a spoon rest !!  But a few (my mother included) used spoon rests as decoration in the kitchen !!  Maybe they were dual purpose !!

After reading everyone's posts, I googled "Imperial glass grape spoon rest" and found this:

This is even BETTER!

Mart,

When you think about it, most of the time we don't use the spoon rest and it gets in the way, either on the stove or taking up space on the counter. The easiest and handiest place to keep it is in within reach on the wall or put on the back of the stove (above where the controls are). Like trivets, they've evolved over time to become decorative as well.

If I need one I usually just sit a saucer on the stove !! But everyone used to have at least one spoon rest !!

In my house if it was on the counter it would have held a paper clip or 2, or a plastic rubberband and some change. ;D
