Title: Majolica jardiniere: Real or fake?
Post by: Liopleurodon on August 13, 2014, 03:41:48 PM
Dear all,

Last week I bought this majolica jardiniere. I can't find a similar piece on the internet in details.
Can anyone tell me if this piece is old, or maybe a reproduction. The underside is painted. The mark is missing, but there is a number.
Thanks in advance!

Since majolica is a method of glazing you will find it is still being made !! My opinion is that this is a fairly new reproduction !! Numbers are sharp, clear and look very modern style !!  Little wear on the feet !!

Here's an informative guide to guessing whether your Majolica piece is authentic or repro/ripoff:

Hi Mart and Jedo,

Thank you for the information. I also doubt about it, but think it's new (because of the number).

I think so too but do read the guide Jedo_03 posted to make sure !! It has a lot of good information !!

Jedo_03,, thanks for that link !! I put it on my desktop !! There are many pieces that have been posted here with chemical (fake) crazing !! Its hard for some to tell the difference !!
