Title: Granny's Letters
Post by: ejones76 on August 18, 2014, 06:53:58 pm: We cleaned out my grandparents house and found letters that she and my grandfather wrote each other while he was overseas in World War 2.
They had been packed away in a shoe box in a cedar chest and still in good shape. I want to persevere the letters, is there anything special that I need to do with them. Thanks for info.

Post by: mart on August 19, 2014, 01:08:44 pm: The rubber bands are typical of many that are found like that !! I would suggest good photo albums that are acid free with the sleeve style pages !! You can also buy the pages by themselves !! Just put them in order in the sleeves and in the album !! You can leave the letters in the envelopes !! Then when you want you can read them in the order they were sent !! Will tell you what was going on in their lives back then !!

Since since she has passed I am going to do the same with these letters and give them to his son & daughter !! Will be a nice remembrance of their parents lives from before they were born and through their childhood !! They were both born in Japan !! Had dual citizenship till they were 21 years old !!

Post by: talesofthesevenseas on August 20, 2014, 05:04:43 pm: I would invest in an acid-free archival box. You might also want to put a sheet of buffered acid-free tissue between each letter. It may be a bit pricey, but that would keep the acidity of the paper the letters are written on from eventually damaging the letter next to it.
