Title: Silver Dish
Post by: cmlindb on March 16, 2015, 09:48:12 am
Hey guys, I haven't dug very deep into this piece (only like an hour of frustration). The piece is 12 inches across and a couple inches deep. It is marked "Trabajo Mano" and "925 AC". I am not sure what it is for but I am assuming it is just a wall piece. If anyone knows what it is for and maybe an age time frame that would be magical.

Trabajo Mano is Spanish and means hand made.

925 specifies silver content.

Can you take a better picture of the AC please?  This should be the maker's mark/identifier!

Also, it appears that there is wording just above the word MANO but I can't make it out.  What can you see?

It is also decently light. Only about 14 oz and for the size that leads me to think it could be decorative only. I cant seem to figure out what the AC means though.

I'm thinking the letters are PLR?

Was researching Perlita (retail store) and Plateria (silver shop).

I agree, on this one it needs a hands on with a jewelers loop to try and discern makers marks.

925 does depict sterling so lets hope it is properly marked!  Beautiful piece!

I wonder if this is your person?

I think this might be another try.

I think the mano is the hand made portion of it and the AC is the mark of the maker. I the first link looks similar though in style.

It's a silver dish from Peru. Makers mark might be local but there have been American silversmiths like Truman Bailey who've marked Peruvian silverware.

Seems you are getting the same feedback from other sites as well.  :)

I'm just not convinced it is Peru.  Plata (silver) or Plata Fina (fine silver) is often found on items with Hecho Mano (hand made).

My naked eye says it was a "trabaho peru mano"

yep....I had a Brain hiccup!  :)  It does say Trabaho.

Typed "Plata (silver) or Plata Fina (fine silver) is often found on items with Hecho Mano (hand made)." and meant to type - Plata (silver) or Plata Fina (fine silver) is often found on items with trabajo hecho mano.
