Title: Asian Maker Mark
Post by: kdj on June 22, 2016, 04:57:33 PM
Hello,
I am looking for info on an Asian maker's mark.
It is on the bottom of a small tureen with lid, probably for gravy.
When researching makers marks that may be from Japan, China, or other Asian countries, how can you tell which country it is from? On the tureen, I am not sure which direction is up for this mark. When searching the web sites for marks, there are so many countries/maker marks to see. I am hoping by narrowing the search down to which country would be a start. If anyone knows the attached picture of a maker's mark , I thank you in advance for any information.

Just off the top of my head: Without seeing the rest of the piece, it's hard to tell anything from the mark. Gotheborg.com is a good resource if all you're trying to do is figure out the mark. It looks Chinese to me but I could be wrong. I would upload additional photos of the entire piece.

As suggested, (thank you) here are some pictures of the" tureen".
If it is by another name, please advise.
Maybe it is a candy dish since there is no ladle.
The blob next to the maker's mark is a chipped bubble from process of firing.
I do want to find the maker because it is included in a sale.
I think these are fairly inexpensive and easy to find.
Thanks again!

Appears modern to me. The mark is most likely spurious, meaning it's not an authentic piece from the said generation the mark suggests. A mark of this penmanship is often placed on more recent 20th century items as a homage rather than a ruse. The colors are quite dark and almost appear European, yet that may be due to the lighting. Either way, I wouldn't sorbf yiinuuvh yinf historical value and focus on the aesthetic value. Still a good piece to admire.

Lost my breath laughing at your quote ghopper1924!  You are too much!  😂

Appears to be a "modern" piece just in style/composition.

Suggest you look through Gotheborg site and might possibly find it!

Looks to be a pretty recent Chinese import to me !!   Mat can probably give you a good idea of the mark !!

Definitely overlooked that typo. The iPhone makes crazy inferences when you misspell stuff.
