Have tried to find clues to the origin of these with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The set consists of about a dozen plates in 2 sizes as well as saucers and small cups. Each plate has a different motif. They are primitive/folk designs. The imprint on the back is oval and looks kind of like Pac man with "HT" inscribed in the lower half of the oval. Anyone have any ideas??
Thanks

Is this mark raised ??

The mark is pressed into the clay. In addition, many of the pieces also have an initial or two somewhere else on the back but those are painted in black. I assume that indicates the individual who designed or painted it.

Has me stumped....

Me too. Someone suggested they might be french. No clue.....

The "mark" looks like a "curved sword & bar" with maybe initials under the "bar".

So you can not feel the lines ?? "Incised" would be scratched into the clay so you could not feel the lines !! Sorry to be so technical but need to know !! I have been looking for a raised mark,, not an incised mark !! A Raised mark would indicate a molded piece with the mark as part of the mold,,incised or scratched into the clay could be a hand made or studio piece as well as just hand decorated !! The mark would have to be scratched into the clay as the plate was being made !!

HT or HJ?

Oh !! Now I see what you mean Cogar !! Sure looks like it !!
Can I ask what country/location you are in ??

Looks like an animal to me, possible a mouse. Facing left, i can see ears, a line for the back legs and then the curved tail going beneath the letters.

Thanks for the input. The mark looks like it was pressed into the clay, not inscised or scratched. The plates may be molded but each has a different charming motif of country and farm scenes. On the back of most plates There is an initial or two painted on in black. These differ from plate to plate. The mark is definitely HT, clearer on some plates than others. The first line on the top of the oval is a little jagged, not totally straight. Not sure the sword or mouse thing is correct.
