Title: Question about glass
Post by: Raven31557 on January 18, 2017, 02:47:48 pm
Hello again.

If a glass dish or bowl seems awfully heavy for its size is that indicative of anything, such as it's lead crystal or even just better quality or worse quality?

I can't get a picture of it until 2moro, but it's a covered clear glass bowl/dish.
It's only 4" H x 5" D (w/o lid) but it feels like it's at least 2 pounds.

Yes, higher lead content = more weight.

If it is a real good piece then it maybe, sorta, probably is “marked” ……. so check it over really closely cause some marks are really tuff ta see.

Here's a picture.
It's not cut glass.
and there are absolutely no markings on it at all.
No tiny air bubbles. No seams. Nothing.
It's octagon shaped.
The base is rather thick, so maybe that's why it's heavy.
I'm guessing it's just pressed glass.

I looked for powder jars so maybe thats what it is !!  Back in the 60`s many used bath powder and they had these big fluffy powder puffs !!

Ahh. I kinda remember that.
I wish I had even half of your knowledge.
I'd know where to look up stuff.
 :)

I did, however, find a way too cool site for Depression glass!!
I now know I have an amber Adam's Rib bowl.
