Hi guys,
I have no idea how to start researching. Does any one know it's usage? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It measures approximately 13" tall and about 6 " at it's widest point. There is a plastic slender container with lid inside, I assume that ice can be place in container to chill beverage?? Heavy silver/pewter screw on lid with spout, also the glass feels like lead crystal. No visible markings. Pictures below.

Hi Dantes,
It looks like an EAPG decanter with pewter lid/handle. I don't believe the plastic ice insert is from the original decanter, but perhaps from a more modern one.

Here is an example of a vintage French decanter from the 60's with plastic ice insert:

Probably Victorian to chill water !! Only markings would be on the metal lid !! May be tiny but check anyway !!

Eureka!!...Thanks Sophie Mae..The Esty's listing is same maker as this one. Thanks

I have one of these. They are heavy lead crystal so DO NOT let liquids sit in them for long periods of time.
They were made with silverplate - so either plate is worn off or it is badly in need of elbow grease n silver polish.
Just search "lead crystal wine decanter with insert" and you will see more than you ever dreamed of!

Thanks KC...Yes it is in need of a good cleaning. One of the reason I was not sure if it was silver or pewter, but underneath the lid shows traces of silver contents.

Hey Mart...no maker mark found or mentioned just exact design as the one I have.

Oh !! I would not have guessed 60`s !! Show what I don`t know about French stuff !!
-
Mart, I'm not so sure it is French!
Dantes,
Here are three links for a FB Rogers Italy silver plate decanter with plastic ice insert. They show the same item, but the pictures illustrate the parts in various ways; one includes a box. Please let me know if this is identical to the one you have. Thank you!

Nope, Mart it isn't French. It is more of an Americanized version of an Italian Claret Jug.
Just Search Italian Claret Jug and you will find much of the same pictures that you would find when you search the "lead crystal wine decanter with insert".

SophieMarie...Sorry for the late reply, I've been offline for a few days. Yes, it looks like it would be a FB Rogers Italy Glass Carafe ,from your links provided it is the same as the ones pictured in auctions.. Thanks again for your great detective work. ;D ;D ;D
