https://www.kovels.com/discussions/can-anyone-give-me-info-about-this-piece-it-says-it-is-a-old-spanish-lamp-that-may-had-held-olive-oil-for-fuel.html
Supposed to be an olive oil lamp from Spain but the glass looks like patterns from the USA !! Odd burner though !! I thought a whale oil lamp !!
-
USA probably stole the pattern from Spain. Beacause of size I would lean more towards olive vs whale. I would think whale more for boating.
-
I agree on whale oil.

I really don’t think it is a lamp, …… cause oil lamps don’t have metal wicks.
I believe it is an “atomizer” and should have a “squeeze” bulb and tube connected to the side port.
And a “squeeze” of the bulb sends a squirted “mist” out of the top port.
-
I saw the round wick ports that were used for whale oil but olive oil took a regular flat wick !! Didn`t even think about an atomizer !! Need better pics of the top and will ask about size !! Can`tell if there is, or what size openings the top has !!
Ghopper,, didn`t they use things like this in the Victorian era ?? Seems like I have seen similar but can`t remember where !!
-
I would agree with Cogar, in this being an atomizer with parts missing. Looks like a plunger pump missing the knob on top, with the nozzle on the side.

Very good, Rauville, …….. I got it backward with my guess, … the "misting" port is on the side.
Some trivia about different uses of manually operated “atomizers”.
In the late 19th century a carbolic acid “mist” was sprayed in/around the OR as a disinfectant before surgery. But the spraying device's cannister was made of metal, not glass.

Yep, sure looks like an atomizer alright, minus the "plunger."
In the Victorian era they's often have squeeze bulbs with tassels, etc. Unusual to see one like this.

Thanks all !! Looks like its an atomizer !!
