Title: 1880s Couch
Post by: axlbul on March 18, 2019, 09:59:58 am
Good morning,
we received this couch and a side table and buffet from a friend that recently passed.
the side table and buffet are marked with original Luce Furniture markings on the backs but the one on the couch has worn off.
I know it isn't Luce but I do know from family history that it was built in the 1880s and shipped to New York and then moved to its current location here in Oregon.
I am looking to have it professionally cleaned. it has some slight scuffs on the one armrest and a spot on the back corner a cat has clawed at it.
for the most part it is in amazing shape though.
Any advise on cleaning and value would be appreciated.

Nice stuff. Your narrative makes sense for the sofa. The other pieces look like nice quality dining room pieces ca. 1940.

This should help you !!  You didn`t post a pic of the label but you can get a pretty good idea of date from the style of the label !!
The case pieces you have are in the Jacobean Revival style and I think were likely from the 1920s !!
Good thing that cat stayed behind the sofa !!  If it were me I would get some matching heavy duty thread and a curved needle and just try to make the damaged area less noticeable !!  If you can`t find a professional to clean it,, just rent a steam cleaner with a furniture attachment !!  I would dilute the shampoo slightly from what is recommended !!  Wouldn`t hurt to add a bit of Febreeze in with the shampoo just to freshen it up !!

Resolve carpet cleaner is great for cleaning upholstery. I use it all the time and it does not damage fabric.
