Title: need some help identifying this Pyrex Jar
Post by: ZedHed on September 03, 2009, 01:02:41 pm
Hello I am new here and I was scouring the web trying to find this item but could not date it or price it

I think its a Bell Jar and other bell jars i have found were pretty pricey so if anyone knows something about this or where I can find more information about it it would be greatly appreciated

I've got a suspicion on what you've got there , ZedHed , but I'd like to know the dimentions of your item , please .

diameter 5 and 5/16 inches
about 6 inches tall
opening at bottom is about 4 inches wide

the glass is very thick about 3/4 inch at bottom 1/2 inch in the middle and about an inch at the top

i also found a number 15 at the top

I think what you have there is one of two possibilities , ZH .

First would be a bowl from a fuel filter (either gas or deisel , boat or motor vehicle) .

Second would be from an old (and unsafe , thus no longer in use) compressed air device (either a filter , oiler , or drier) .

I don't think it's a bell jar , sadly .

Not worth so much , ZedHed , except perhaps to someone who is missing this most fragile part of an old assembly .

Wish it weren't so .
