Thanks!

That's scary.
-
I believe it is the “Fire Chief” jar and was made by American Bisque.
-
I believe the shape & style. is and English Bobby.
-
I concede, D&B, I didn't look at the picture in my book close enough.
My one book shows 3 jars - Fire Chief, Pirate and Captain and I knew it wasn't the last 2.
My other book lists 2 jars - Brownie (marked "Brownie" on collar) and Cop.
All are marked "USA" on bottom. The jar bottoms are all the same but the lids are slightly different.
-
Cogar I have to admit. I just looked at cookie jar's book two ;D I tell you what. that's very close too the police man.the foot note say's.hat reads police.back of collar is ''Cop''.
I think we could solve the puzzle. IF those word's are there. and it does look american Bisque. Reference Ermagene Westfall Cookie jars book two. 2000 edition.
-
Thanks for the great info. There is a #1 on his hat, but no other words or markings anywhere.
Cop or Fireman?
-
If it has the word's. U.S.A. on the bottom I'am going to agree with Cogar. It's American Bisque. but still believe it's and English Bobby.
-
There was a german company, who first designed the Bobby. American Bisque picked up on it in the 1950's. I believe you have one of the Original's from Germany.
-
I think we should discuss this with the others. My statement is we are looking at a ''Rare Cookie Jar'' the number one being a mold number. in other word's first off the kiln & mold.
It is German. but was copyed by American Bisque in the 1950's. This is one of those I wish I could see up close.
-
It's in Sunday's auction. Someone is going home with it. I normally have a pretty good idea of what we're selling, but this one stumped me.
-
I agree with D&B that "we are looking at a ''Rare Cookie Jar''
So the question is, Dada51, ..... are you selling or buying? ;D ;D ;D
-
Theres Obvious paint loss. likely from years, of Handling & Wipeing the dust. but if I were and avid cookie jar collector. this one would be on my want to own list.
-
I'm the auctioneer. This cookie jar was consigned with a bunch of others. It is selling this Sunday, although we're having a blizzard here in the middle of the country so I don't know if we'll be having an auction on Sunday or not.
-
It was cold painted. that's apparent from the paint loss. so I would say' 1930's that's when figurals, became popular. if info given is correct. I would start the bid at $300.00 Dollars.
It's christmas so the others. are likely injoying the day. But I'am sure they will respond.
-
Any guesses as to what it will bring at auction? I'll post the price realized after the auction on Sunday.
-
The price is going to depend on who's there. & of course the weather. I would suggest regardless of it's value. $125.00 Dollars.
We are looking forward to your auction result's.
-
Agree with D&b. Cold painted for sure! Believe this one is a rare one! Couldn't find it in the books...but then I don't have them all!
-
Weekly auction has been canceled due to the blizzard. It will now sell at the January 3rd auction. I'll post the result.
-
Please keep us in Mind. we Know your day's are busy. we injoy the feed back.

Hi all...........and a belated Merry Christmas but also a joyous and healthy new year to all.
Without markings he probably won't make a lot of difference. I'm looking at Roerig II Fire Chief but even the authors of the price guides get it wrong sometimes. The soldier (no he is not a soldier), in Westfall's book actually looks closer in terms of patina/paint loss.
IF I were the auctioneer, I would state you believe it to be American Bisque or possibly earlier. I would call him a Fire Chief but that there were other Roly-Poly characters made. No chips/cracks, I'd start it at $300, get a bid at $25 and probably sell it in the neighborhood of $100. CJ's aren't what they were after Andy Warhol's auction but the old ones should still do ok.
Depending on area of the country and of course the weather........... ::)

If the Bidder Knows his Cookie Jar
-
If the Bidder knows his or her cookie jars they will be looking for those distinct wedge shapes. common to most Americn Bisque. which are on the bottom.
-
Sells tomorrow (Sunday, 1/3/10). I'll remember to post the price.
-
Let us know!
-
Sold for $100.
-
:)Thank's for the repost. not a bad price considering, condition paint loss etc.
-
Congrats. Thanks for letting us know!
