Title: What is this? 1904 "medallion"?
Post by: ntmad8r1 on March 05, 2010, 11:47:49 am
The medallion part is about the size of a quarter, has what appears to be mother of pearl and then a trefoil on top of the mother of pearl in Red, White, Blue, and Gold, and says St Louis '04 in it. It has a leather strap with 3 holes. It appears to be a purse or clutch adornment of some sort. Please help me if you can. Thanks in advance. Don

It is a watch fob with strap from the World's Fair held in St. louis Missouri in 1904.  These were commonly used with pocket watches and the strap hung outside a gentleman's pants or vest pocket while the watch was secure in the pocket.  It does appear to be mother-of-pearl in back of the 'trefoil'.  Watch fobs and World's fair items are highly collectible.
