Welcome cajuncook!! Is there any company/manufacturer name either on a label or on the underside of the chest?  Check all areas however obscure for markings.  Also, what are the dimensions of the chest?

Not made by one of the larger name companies  - would have their infor and/or numbering system on it.

Haven't seen one like this myself.  Will keep looking!

If none exact to yours can be found , then one possibility is that you might have a prototype chest ....

The real problem is not being able to look everywhere in the world , to be sure of it ...

Your item appears to me , to be a cedar chest - I'd say that the ink-stamped type/style/font is probably from the same-ish era as the newspaper 'liner' .

Looks like it's in pretty good shape & not your every-day run-of-the-mill cedar chest design .
Cool little chest .

There's some members here who do wonderful , surprising & excellent research , cajuncook , so someone may find something .

I'm personally not really well-informed about this era of furniture , so that's about it from me .

BTW , welcome to the forum , cajuncook .

Went to the patent site and put in hope chest and looked at all to no avail.

Did the same with cedar chest - none came up looking like this either! (believe me, went through a bunch!!!!)
