Title: mahogany table

can anyone tell me something about this table's age and what it may be worth to fixup
i bought it for 50.00 at a yard sale with six matching chairs has some fading in the finish abernathy furniture co--- cabinet maker-Mayer thats all I could make out any help would really be appreciated  ;D

Abernathy Furniture Co was in business from 1856 until the early 1950's, so with a 100 year window of production, we'll need our furniture guys to determine the age. It looks to me like what I have seen called a Victorian era drop-leaf table, but someone else should chime in on if that.

I found a similar Abernathy table (legs are a little different) that looks like it was refinished. Not a super high auction price for it though, $75 to $125, but considering you got yours for free, that's great! I think it's a great little table!

By the way, it looks like you have peg construction on the legs. Kneel down there and take a look at those pegs and see if they are still flush with the surface of the wood, or if they are popping out a little bit. That would indicate that the wood is probably older and has shrunk over time.

thanks alot for your help, just wondering if I should refinish it since it's not that valuable? still made a good investment though again thanks a lot for all your info is walnut worth more than mahogany? which is a better wood
