Title: what is this dresser?
Post by: mrobrien on May 27, 2010, 02:07:45 pm
I have had this dresser for years but my wife says it no longer go with her decor theme (whatever that means) I decided to sell it on craigslist.  I was asking $1500.00 which I thought was high but the phone is ringing off the wall.  Can anyone look at the pics and tell me if there is something special about my old dresser/
.
thanks Brien

the side panel's indicate early or pre 1900's the door was used to store a chamber pot. which is unique in it's self.it looks to have been refinished it has a Charles Eastlake influence.

it was refinished years ago.  someone had done a very poor varnish job so it was stripped to the stain and recleared.  thanks for the info

It's a highboy style, and usually were men's dressers. The small cupboard is for a man's hat. Is the mirror beveled?? If so, I'd say it's original too, and makes it more valuable. Also looks like it has original hardware.

Too bad your wife wants to get rid of it, it's a nice dresser!

Totally agree...the value will only go up and up.  Can you put it in a closet to please her and keep it?

Think it resembles an Eastlake as well.  Originals of the men's dressers are selling for $2000 upwards around here....  The $2,000 is if they are in bad shape.

Well now, that doesn't surprise me any, finding those are far n' few between.

I have only seen 1 but with a smaller mirror and the lady still has it.

Here is one at $1,450

Thank you for your opinions.  Does anyone recommend a particular avenue to sell my dresser.  Where does someone sell a dresser like this?
thanks Brien
