Title: Attic Find...
Post by: Welcome2mworld on August 26, 2010, 12:23:55 am
Can anyone tell me what this is? I found it at my grandmothers house.

It belonged to her sister, whose husband was stationed in Germany and Japan. She has many treasures from those times, but this caught my eye. I want to know what it is and any other info. you might have. I've done a lot of research but of course not even knowing what it is limits the findings substantially...

It also has a music mechanism on the back.. not sure what it plays, and it says "Fluelen" on the front.

Welcome Welcome !   ;)

Not knowing the size and only seeing it from one side it looks to me like a wine spout or spigot.

As sapphire said, it does look like a pourer for a bottle.  It is a souvenir from Fluelen, Switzerland.  Maybe it plays a tune as it pours?  ;D

They primarily made music boxes there....(o it is possible it could be - and they do like to drink wine there)...but think it could be part of a music box!!!!!!!!

Could it be part of a child's mobile or toy?

Really need to see if the metal parts are hollow or solid!  Do they move?

I was wondering about a spout also. I hadn't thought about a mobile that's a great guess. The parts do move when the music is playing but only slightly. I'm thinking unintentionally and only because there are moving parts rubbing against them o the inside. I'll upload more pictures to see if that helps.

Here are a few different perspectives.

Here's an example of what I was thinking of (mind you this one is Dutch and has a cork fitted over the lower tube)

Hmmm... that's interesting. I let you be the judge though because I just don't know. Also does anyone now how to clean the wood, as you can see in the first picture it's a little dirty in places.

I'm thinking you are exactly right! Looking at the bottom it could fit around the top of a bottle, an I've heard they (my great aunt and uncle) liked to drink :). Thank you for the examples they are always helpful an welcomed.
