I cant seem to find anyone that can tell me exactly what this is....many people have many ideas about what it is for...Please help. Thanks
-
It's a wooden hand mirror blank in need of a mirror. ;D The marks on the end of the handle just show it was put in a lathe and turned. Not expensive enough to cut off the chuck marks.

Hamburger patty flattener. :D

Child spanker?
Roach thwacker?
If it had rattles inside, I would think it's a percussion instrument of some sort.
-
Laughed out loud at Curious' comments....first thing I thought of was my momma would have used it at least once for one of us kids at some point! Ha! (And we deserved it!) :)
Can you please post the dimensions?

Here are some more pics...The top is pretty heavy so I dont not think it was used to hit anything because the handle would snap right off. The handle almost seems older so maybe it was an unused cutting board that someone decided would look better with a handle attached and hanging on the wall????
-
Okay, this is when the brain cells aren't working...I know I have seen something similar to this before!!!!!!!
-
The shape reminds me of the mini Chinese drums that you roll between your hands as a noisemaker for Lunar New Year, but being made of solid wood it couldn't be that. :-\
-
The surface looks like a butcher block and the wood looks like hard maple. I think something such as cheese or bread is served on it, like at a dinner in something better than a fast food joint.
-
Wayward -- you might be closer to the truth. I recall that quite often, when you buy something like a cheese sampler from a mail-order catalog (especially around the holidays), it might come with a small cutting board and a small cheese knife. This might be something similar.
-
I would say it was too thick for such a small one....but then who am I to say?!!! (No comments from the peanut gallery!)
Are there any knife/wear marks?
It would also be awkward to serve with that. The handle would rotate around and OOPS the cheese would fall!

For some reason I get the feeling it was used as a form to make something like hats, ballet shoes or something along those lines.
-
I was thinking it was form also wendy177........... ........or a darner! :P
-
My best guess is something tortilla-related .
-
My opinion, it is not an old item given the fact it is made out of 7 different boards. And it looks to have a finish on it which precludes it being used to serve food directly on. Having only 1 handle and its placement limits its uses. It might just have been a Workshop “project” and not intended to be of any use.

cogar....i tend to lean towards your answer.......

My last "gee , I really don't know" guess would be along the lines that have been suggested by members (except me) ....
Perhaps your item is a trivet ?
