The only thing this mug says is 'france'. I love it. What is the style called? A stein of some sort right?

I think the correct name is a tankard. Stein is the German word for stone and usually refers to the ceramic type.

I found this page... about half way down it gives some tips for dating. Search "Pewter Fittings" on the page. I have to say tho I compared new to old and couldn't tell a difference! lol lots of pics but no search us function that I saw.
