My husband is rehabing on Pine St. in Philadelphia. He dug this bottle up. We are trying to figure out what it was for. The picture of the bottom I couldn't get clear. There's a Sunburst on the bottom. My husband thinks it was medicine. I thought a cologne. It has some sort of Federal symbal on it. I'm still trying to clean it.

I would guess vinegar of some sort, a condiment like ketchup, or an oil.

It looks like its only about 4 in. Is that embossing around the middle ?? Try putting regular rice about a good tsp., a bit of windex, little water, about half full and shake, shake, shake to get the gunk off the inside. The rice should scrub it pretty clean.

This guy may be able to help ID your bottle. I emailed him with some questions on one I had:

I'm familiar with that website. I haven't been there in so long I had to register. The bottle is about an 1 1/2 inches. It has flowers and a federal symbal that go around it. Then I thought because of the fancy decorations it was perfume, but that symbal is so masculine. I was using windex and the pine sol, then I have other made up tools, lol the rice I'll have to try, that sounds great. We fine a lot of bottles. With this bottle we also found a Rubifoam for the Teeth, Lowell Mass, the first form of toothpaste. This tiny one was so interesting and wasn't in any book. I'm going to check my emails to see if my account has been activated and post a picture on the bottle website tomorrow. I'll have to get better pictires. It's hard to see the design in the picture.

These are better pictures of the designs.

The embossing looks to have both a shield shape and a flower shape,, is that right ??
