Title: Pearl Inlay Okinawan End Table

Once upon a yesterday, I found this beauty at a yard sale. I was told by a veteran that it was brought back from Okinawa.  I wasn't told a year. Could anybody tell me anything about this piece of furniture, and proper care?

Please, anything... I still have no idea. A Japanese aquaintance of mine said that the symbol on the top might be a family crest, but I still have no idea.
