Galaxywomun , my best guess is that this site (as a free site) is pretty much 'member-powered' , with many active (& formerly active) members .

As far as promotion , the ones that happen here are related to the # of posts a member creates .... i.e.- 'new member', 'hero member' , etc. , as well as 'promotion' in the eyes of other members , depending on the expertise/interest/accuracy of research a member shares here .

Why?

My best guess , as to the reason 'why' , I'd have to say "That's how the homies roll." (here @ antique-shop.etc) .

Perhaps other members will add to the thread with more notions/opinions !

For some reason I'm lost on this Thread.  Are we talking promotion of this site?, or promotion of our personal site?  Sorry I get lost from time to time.  ???

ha!  i read this over and can see how it seems vague.  then i disappeared for awhile.  what i mean is do you guys promote through social media, ie twitter, facebook, etc.  i guess ebay is harder to promote thru busincess cards....any other ways you promote your *listings*  ps--i am an AVID twitter user.  it's fun!!

Personnally I do little promotion to my Ebay site, spend most of my time with research, photos, writing my post, them packing, any remaining time I tend to spend here, gosh what a lame life I have huh  ;D

eBay has a long list of rules about promotion on business cards, but if you follow the rules, you can use their name. I've got it on my business cards.

Mine is for my own amusement so I don`t bother !! I don`t have time for social media, this group,a garden group and a couple of equine groups, two gardens, six horses, and husband take up most of it !! And right now I am painting my house outside !!

To the best of my knowledge, this forum is listed in search engines but not advertised elsewhere. I believe that the activity it generates results simply because it is interesting, not by way of any conscious effort to recruit viewers. Just my two cents worth.

One reason there is so much activity here is if you do reasearch on an item,, many times this site is in the results where a topic has been brought up here !!

When I found this forum, I actively sought out an antiques forum after getting an assessment on my dining table that I didn't think was correct on another forum. I had first posted it in a forum that was pretty much monopolized by one person giving her opinions and other mostly looking on, but not offering any info. I looked at the opinion person's profile and she had no professional experience, and yet no one on this forum seemed to want to suggest that her opinion could be anything but spot-on. What I like about this forum is that we all give our opinions, and if it turns out we got it wrong, we all learn from it and we're all better for it and no one gets humiliated or raked over the coals. It is all part of learning and ten heads are better than one.

I looked for an antiques forum and found this one. I read through alot of posts and saw there was alot of knowledge here and everyone got along. I liked that the experts didn't look down on people like me that don't know much. I also like that the people that aren't really experts still contribute because they tend to be damn good with search engines. Its the nice balance of skills and knowledge that drew me here.

This forum has a very broad base of contributors !! I enjoy reading what everyone has to say !! Many times a point is brought up by someone that had never crossed my mind,, and it opens up another avenue to research !!  The more the merrier in my opinion !!
