Post by: mart on October 17, 2011, 03:05:08 pm
Many use wierd amounts ??  It used to be $4.99 or $10.99 or even numbers,, Now I have been seeing more odd numbers. Just looked at one that was $2.92 and another that was $19.60 !!  Its change !! Round it off !!   Ideas why ????

No I have seen this before, and don't always understand people's prices.  I always use even prices except for $9.99, $24.99, or $49.99 That being the insert fee breaks other then that it is like 20.00.  Guess maybe they are micro managing their profits.

I use the ??.99 because people as a whole see round down. Sometimes I use ??.49, but that's about it. Some people are just weird.

Maybe they are thinking that a weird number looks like it has been bid on...  Bid = interest so drives more traffic???

My first thought was maybe that was conversion from a foreign currency to US dollars but Oceans scenario sounds more likely.

ive started listings at strange numbers like 2.43 before. why do i do this? simply to undercut my competing sellers by pennies  ;D for example, i know several times looking online for a textbook. id find several of the same book, same condition. if one is a penny or two cheaper than the next, ill buy the cheaper one and save a penny. i figure other people do the same and so i list pennies cheaper than competitors
