Title: What does this say? What is it's history/value?

Does anyone know what this says? Or know anyone that would be able to know what this says?  This is a picture of the front and back. The only information we have on it is that it is a Carpenter Square from around World War II. My boyfriends Grandfather had given it to him along with a Japanese gas mask with it's case from World War II and there is actually blood stains on the case. We would love to know more about about this!

If you live close to an oriental market,, take it to them and ask if they know what it says !! Could be either Korean or Japanese !!

I need to know what it says! Just out of curiosity. Will try to see if I can find anything out over the next day or so. Not having any luck on an image search.
