Antique Questions Forum / Re: WHAT ARE THESE? (BRASS RIVET BUTTONS)
« on: October 20, 2025, 08:54:15 PM »
These could be for 2 things!
#1 are called Brass Rivets - look up jeans rivets.  They are hammered/pressed in at high stress areas on pockets, seams, etc.

or

#2  Decorative Dome Rivets for Upholstery - used for decoration and for high stress/pressure areas.

Just from the pictures - it looks like the real deal to me - especially the wear on it!

Hope all is well with you and that fabulous place you bought!  Did you ever get the work finished?!  Miss seeing your treasures!

FYI - Unfortunately Mart passed away last year not long after her husband.  She is terribly missed!

Hi!  Very nice piece of Jim Booth art.
The reason for the $1000 is to help cover costs because 1) you cannot buy these readily, 2) it will take a long time to find another one, if you can find it 3) It is to cover the cost AND tries to take into account shipping, handling, framing, etc.  IT IS NOT THE VALUE OF JUST THE PRINT!
So many of his are selling in the price range of $80 - $200 (depending on print and market demand).

If it is in really good shape it would still be worth $$$ with a collector or nostalgia seeker!

Hope all is going well with you!  Miss the old gang on here!  So many have passed away!

Would need to see a picture of the entire lighter.  Some of them sell for a pretty good price!

Hi Raven31557!      If it is a true original (not a later one) it could have demanded this cost at one point.  Believe the market is down for now.

The famous foundry that made the cast iron pieces spelled was/is spelled  A. Durenne.

Without handling this it would be hard to tell if it was an original piece (weight, quality, crispness of design).  However, the precise inscription is suspect.  Copies of this same frame have been produced and are still desired. Many replicas are generally stamped with a product code on a leg.

If you search cast iron french renaissance tripod frame with cherubs you will see more like this on the internet.

If the clock is in good working order it should sell well.  It has the Acanthus leaves with a French flair - still very desirable.

Is it resin, wood or metal?  The earlier pieces were made from "Woodite" or woodpulp.  These hold more value.

"To identify Syroco, search the piece for a maker's mark. Pieces produced before the 1960s will usually display the letter C or D along with a style number. Later pieces generally bear a foil stamp that reads Syracuse Ornamental Company and have a letter J or K marking."

Interesting article on the company by Miss Mustard Seed (This is an excellant site)

The style looks like those that are seen from the 1930's - 1950's.  It looks to  be in beautiful shape.

Hi Raven31557!  Does the metal base have any markings on it anywhere?

Hi!
Please post pictures of the dish, close ups of front and back and any manufacturer markings!
Condition makes a big difference in value as well.
Look forward to seeing your pictures.

Hi!
Can you please post a clearer picture of the makers' mark?   Picture of the interior?

It's a beautiful piece and appears to be in exceptional condition.

If you search 'Napier silver with gold inlay cigarette case' you will see quite a few with monograms on them.

Hi!  Thank you for sharing your treasure.  Could it possibly be a pill box?

Can you please post a picture of the box open as well?  Higher grade items, made by established names, many times had identifiers inside.

For a vase of this type it needs to be seen in person.  The weight of the item/how it feels and looks is very important.

Maybe someone else will pipe in here.
