Title: a large ernest rost lithograph.
Post by: murphycat on November 20, 2011, 10:54:14 AM
I have a large Ernest Roth lithograph that I would like to get a general value on. It is on very thick board, it says " The Old Elm Road" and it is signed on the left with a "cc 'at least I think it is a c' and Ernest Roth, 1890; on the right bottom corner it says The Old Elm Road etched by Ernest C. Roth." Does anyone have an idea if it is of any value?

Here's some interesting information:

"Rost was one of the first US Government Commissioned Photojournalists, commissioned to take photos of the Spanish American War, and later scenes in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Philippines and Panama. Ernest Rost became a photographer after his previous publisher fraudulently forged his name onto low-quality prints. He was so outraged, he turned to photography even though he won and was not even compensated for the publishers actions. Because of the 1894 suit, original paintings and etchings that pre-dated the incident have become quite sought after and are increasing in price."
