My mother bought this at an estate sale. The man had bought it from an estate sale as well. I am looking for any information anyone may have. We recently visited Windsor Castle and it looks like it could be a piece of furniture there. Got us wondering of what it may be worth.... no markings anywhere.

Is that a marble top? What is on the top of it? Can we see the back and the drawer interiors, A wild guess but it looks like a few elaborate pieces I have seen from the 1880s that were actully American made to look French but that is a uneducated guess on this. It is a fabulous piece and worth restoring if it needs it. I am really confused by all that is on the top of it. Is that just junk or really bad damage?
-
Looks like she has some items laying on top of it !! I would like to see the top as well !! I think she is in the UK so doubt it being American made !!

It is a marble top. I will take some more pictures tonight of the top and inside the drawers. It is in perfect condition. As far as I can see no restoring is needed. The stuff that was on top was some pictures I was waiting for my husband to hang in that room. We don't live in the UK. We live in the states. We had just been in Windsor for vacation. Thanks for the info and I will try to get the other pictures up soon!
-
Oh !!! I assumed that you lived there !! Sorry all !! Did you get any history when you bought the piece ??
-
No history:( My mom bought it from sale and all the guy told her was he bought it from an elaborate sale I put some more pictures up. On the back of drawers a 12 is imprinted on the back.

Can you post a pic of the dovetails where the drawer fronts attach to the side piece !! That is a better indicator of age !! What are the decorative pieces made of ?? Thin metal ?? And how are they attached to the case ?? Glue,,nails ???
-
Looks like they are attached with screws/nails. Here are a few more picks. They are made of some kind of metal

Wow, what a beautiful piece! I love it! Here is an example of the type of picture we need of the drawer. A side view of the drawer that shows how the side board is attached to the front. Thank you for posting it, it's very pretty. :)

http://www.galerieversailles.com/ Due to my being on dial up,,and it would take all day to download all the pics,,I can`t check on your piece,, but look here and see if these look similar to yours !! Not sure that link is correct but try it !! I can find it again if not !! You can click through the list to see what period !!

Hello everyone. I had something come up but I do want to continue finding out what this table is, and what it may be worth. I took a few more pictures.
The pictures show the only markings that I could find on the piece. That being a number 12 that is stamped into the wood on the back of each drawer. On the underside of the marble top, it is stamped "Made in Spain".
Any and all help is appreciated!!

Getting a 20th century vibe from this.

I think Mart may have hit the nail on the head...as this pic from her link shows...the similarities are very close...especially the busts on the corners....this desk is from the same place for sure
this desk is Louis XV
-
If this was a dresser/table...then it would have a knee hole...which this does,nt..i think this is a chest of drawers...the marble top was probably made in Spain...but it does,nt mean the rest of it was,..it looks French...by its design....these dovetails look to be hand cut....i,m thinking mid to late 19th century...or to hedge my bets a 20th repo,
-
I'll go with the latter.

I'll go with the latter.

I think youare right early 20th century,, not much shrinkage on those dovetails !!
-
Value: maybe $300 to $450.

Value: maybe $300 to $450.
Well!...that,s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.... :D
-
Indeed!! Plus it's a beautiful piece!!!
-
I don`t know,,, generally the early copies sell $750. and above !! Would have to do a hands on to say for sure !! I don`t think its a later repro,, but again can`t say for sure !! So its still up in the air on this one !!
-
Unusual dovetails though! Beautiful piece of furniture.

Thanks everybody! I guess I can't quite retire on it, huh? ;) It's definitely a conversation piece so am glad to have it regardless. Thanks again!
