I have this cannon, it appears to be cast iron, and these can range from $20-$2000. I cannot figure out what kind this is and its value. There is only one mark on the top.
Any help would be appreciated!

Is the mark just the letter S ???
-
That is my main problem... I believe so, the possible mark could be:
iisii
hsh
hsii
h5h
or something similar... This has been a big headache!

I'm curious to know the gen'l size of your item , and its' bore size , jramirez05 .
I didn't see a touch-hole (for fuse &/or powder) , could just be my eyes .... is it a 'functional unit' ?
Prob way off the mark , but it reminds me of some Swiss mortars , seen in the distant past .

Looks like maybe "HSII" to me. As in HS2?
-
Size:
10.2 lbs
18 in long
5.5 in wide
hole- .8 in wide
there is no place for a fuse, it is not a "functional unit"
-
any other ideas?

This looks like a decorative reproduction to me. The functional reproductions are much heavier. For example I have a 5/8 scale US Carronade made by Hern Iron Works. Although it is only 25" long it weighs 72 lbs. See the specs on a variety of scale models here:

I should add that there are theatrical cannons and signal cannons that use small amounts of blackpowder, bangsite etc.
-
I would agree with Tales on this one. Looks like a decorator item to me also. The castings have a rather "unfinished" appearance, and that hex nut on the connecting screw /pin would bother me.

When I first viewed the picture I thought it was a big sucker! Then when they gave the dimensions...vote decorative reproduction!

It doesn`t match any of the working cannons that I have found, like the signal cannons !! I saw one dec. repro that was made similarly !! Yours is like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1900-Cannon-Cast-Iron-Brass-Military-Display-Original-Antique-Artillery-/290655215649?pt=Antiques_Decorative_Arts&hash=item43ac66a021 !! The one on ebay had a brass cannon and cast iron carriage but size is about the same !! It is listed as an english cannon !! I looked at all the American ones and the carriage goes straight back on them,, it does not curve upward !!

Felt the same way , KC , @ first look .... but then ...
No evidence of port/touch-hole = repro .
I am not hip @ all to the values of repro/fantasy items , so .... sorry , but I just can't be of any help with pricing , jrameriz05 !

I found a few sites of imports that match the style so well under search for decorative cannons!

As far as value,,out of 235 cannons of various types listed on ebay, I saw bidding on only one !! You can get all kinds of values online,,but if no one is bidding,,that number goes down fast !!
