I purchased this watercolor painting by Sue Northington a couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to find out more information about the artist. I've searched a lot and the only reference I can find about Sue Northington is on another watercolor painting she did listed at an auction site valued at an estimated price range of $350 to $500. I think this watercolor I have is much better than the other painting at the auction site.

Not sure but rather than gouache it looks like acrylic from the shine on the highlighted snow or at least that would be my guess !! I have used the same technique but really hated watercolor !! Way too slow for me !! You might check facebook and myspace !! There are three or four Sue Northingtons there !! Many artists use the social networks for advertising !! She has no sales record other than the one you and I found !! But it was the same signature! You might also email them and ask if they have info !!

One way , in some (esp European) cases to discover if you've got (old) gouache .... check to see if the color(s) become 'fluorescent' under a blacklight (just a brief exposure to UV , not a long-term 'display') .
The cardboard backing looks very typical of those used in the U.S. for watercolor paintings in the 1940's .
