Title: Carlton ware style jam pot
Post by: chonji on January 29, 2012, 07:04:26 AM
Hi all,

Could anybody help identify this maker? Or style? It is vaugely similar to carlton ware but i dont think it is, the bottom is simply marked with some potters numbers, no real info to research by, I am interested to know what sort of flowers might be depicted also, the overall pattern accross the pot is of a ' wall' with trailing flowers blue and yellow in it, i thought the trailers might have been wisteria but the flower shape is wrong really.
If anyone has any links to similar items o knowledge of this be great.
Any help appreciated!.

At first glance they appear to be hydrangea, but that wouldn't cover the yellow.  Wow, that wasn't much help was it?   :D

Yea I had thought hydrangea too, and now i think of it there is a climbing hydrangea, certainly fits the blue, perhaps the yellow would be artistic licence, I alos think there is a trailing viola, but dont think that would be a subject that fits the possible age of the pot, Its cracking me up man. I gots t know bout the pot!  ;->

Could possibly be blue & yellow phlox.

Thats a good shout, certainly an old cottage garden favouritewhich suits the style of pot and would fit the period, if we say the pot was 50s or 60s, it might be later of course but phlox is always around
