Title: information about a chair
Post by: ali.d on February 28, 2012, 12:52:05 AM
My Mother has this chair and has been told so many different things about it and it's value. Can anyone please shed any light so I can advise her? It's in excellent condition.

Who knows what could be under that upholstery. It is a nice overstuffed chair with a 40s look to it very reminiscent of an old Fred and Ginger movie. That's tough from a picture. Could we see the bottom and the feet possibly?

Yep !!  That skirt dates it to 40`s or early 50`s !!  Like the transition furniture after the Hollywood Renaissance a bit earlier !!

I have found these constructed over other chairs. I don't think this one is with those arms. I once found a Victorian arm chair that was used as a frame for a stuffed chair. Its turned legs with caster holes gave the contents away. People did that in the forties. They often sawed the legs though to adjust for the added height.

Thanks for the input. I will try to get a photo of the bottom... might take a few days... It certainly is a cool chair with a romantic feel...
