Title: German spoon
Post by: akima on March 06, 2012, 07:46:17 AM
I came across this spoon and can"t find too much online about it so I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction? The pic isn't great so here's a description. There is a name inscribed in the actual spoon part, it is Menz. The top of the spoon has the date 1914 in the bottom of the iron cross, a "W" in the middle, and a crown on top. The back stamp notes that it is silver plated. Thank you!

How long is the spoon?  It appears to look like a souvenir spoon.  Of couse a Iron Cross and date of 1914 would make it a WW1 era, possible commerative rather then age.  This would be a bit early for the souvenir spoon craze of the Mid century.

This is also known as the Maltese Cross or Knights Cross...depending on the country of origin or which one it is trying to depict.
Here is some information on 1914 and the Iron Cross http://www.worldwar1.com/sfgcross.htm (http://www.worldwar1.com/sfgcross.htm).

Would you please tell EXACTLY what is on the back...markings, etc.
