This is really cute-just found a collectible shop about 2 minutes from my house and found this. I know I have seen these on Ebay but cannot remember if its a Hummel or just a look alike-and of course can't find him now! For the price I wasn't leaving him there.

Look on top of the base for an incised MI Hummel signature !! I think yours is a look alike !! Did not see that figure in the ones done by Hummel !!
-
Not a Hummel! It's a NAPCO most likely....made to jump on the Hummel bandwagon! Love lots of Napco Items!

Thanks Kc-I found it on that site also, but mine looks different-the paint job especially, the hole on the bottom is in a different place too. But hey for $3 he's still cute to me!
-
Japan produced lots of knock offs to get in on the market...they are still enjoyable!
-
You can`t go wrong at that price !!
-
Do any of you know if there are other names these Napco people may have used to manufacture this? I've been searching for days and just cannot find this one I have.
-
NAPCO is just one company. However, there were many companies that copied NAPCO pieces and were only marked Made in Japan.
Sorry. Sometimes the search for the answer can take a long time. Part of the fun in it! If it was easy, everyone would do it!
-
Some were also made in Mexico !!
-
Norcrest and Py are also big manufacturers in post-war Japan of these types of pieces.
-
Hey R&RR,, this one was marked with AH and a style number !! Does that ring a bell with you ??
-
Someone on Ebay told me there's no reason to think its not a Napco-just may have been a later version of it-but i'm not sure I believe it!

I'm afraid not as a brand. The name brands that I've sold that come to mind are Py, Lefton, Norcrest, Napco, and Hummel. I seem to recall a few years ago that one of the Napco pieces that I was selling had that AH mark on the bottom in reference to the style, but my memories fuzzy enough that I can't remember.
-
Could be Napco and AH may be decorators initials !!
-
good answer Mart-i'll go with that, hahahahahaha!
-
Thats the best thing I can come up with,, for now anyway !!
