Title: Could you help me identify what kind of chair this is?
Post by: angieinmia on March 14, 2012, 03:02:23 PM
I bought this for 10$ at an estate sale. My friend
seems to think it's Duncan Phyfe but I beg to differ.
Can anyone identify this type of chair?

Thanks! :)

Not to be blunt, but this chair would never be mistaken for Duncan Phyfe.  Heavy, clunky, Duncan was not.  Not a Federal style.  The front legs resemble Marlboro legs, which were Chippendale, but the upper chair is not at all Chippendale.  I would guess that it is a relatively modern chair with a combination of elements.

Its kind of a play on Chinese Chippendale with a modern twist !!  I think its newer too !!,,,, I just looked around some and your chair is quite like some of the reproduction Chinese Chippendale furniture of the late 30`s !!
