Title: Can you help me value this table, please
Post by: ironikaika on March 14, 2012, 11:54:25 PM
Aloha and thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm looking to sell this table and would love to know where to start. It's been in my family since I was a child and was given to my parents by an artist friend, Kathy Donahey. It's is 48" x 33" when opened and about 30" tall. There is a Imperial, Grand Rapids tag in the drawer and the #814 stenciled on the bottom. Stamped in front of the 814 is a smaller #15 or maybe just #5
Here are the photos and thank you again.

A beautiful antique drop leaf gate-leg table.

Note the 4-quarter thickness of the drawer front.

Here is a similar one.

Wow Cogar, thank you. I originally had it listed on craigslist for $315 but then thought I'd better do some research. In the mean time I had changed it to $3150 just to protect myself. Unfortunately the only interest has come from scammers wanting to send me a cashiers check. Hah. So what would be the best way/place for me to try and sell this. I'm in Hawaii so that might complicate things a bit.

It's a copy of an early american William & Mary (1690-1730) gate leg drop leaf table. Period tables can run 2k to 10k or so, can be more depending on condition, provenance. Imperial was in biz from 1903 to the 1950s, I'd say you had it priced right at $315.

Agree it is made in the style of William and Mary gate leg drop leaf table....but not at the valued price of an authentic W & M.  In my neck of the woods, in in great shape, would sell for $350 - $500...depending on market/demand.

Thank you all very much for your replies. That's exactly what I needed to know.

Nice little table !! Why not just try to sell it locally ?? Value is not enough that it would pay for someone to have it shipped !!  I would just run an ad in my local paper or shopper !! Or try a consignment or resale shop !!
