Title: Silver Dessert Forks AE Poston
Post by: nicccky on April 28, 2012, 08:30:23 PM
I was wanting a value on a set of 6x Silver Dessert Forks made by AE Poston London?
They are a full set and come in the original case/box (case in poor condition)/
Any help would be great....

Also, what is important on silverware is:
1) Is it Sterling or Silverplate?
2) Who is the maker?  (Must make a picture of the makers information on the back side of piece.)
3) Is there pitting?  Is the silver still on the piece evenly?
4) Is there "heel" wear? (The back side of the fork where it rests on the table wears the silver off first and can devalue the piece.)

Is there any markings on the box?  Harrods, as well as other finer stores, sold them at one point.  That could help the price some...but the boxed PASTRY FORKS (correct term for your set) that you have are very common in the US and England.

Pie forks are typically 6 - 7 1/2" in length.  Yours, if I am correct are less than 5" (eyeballing it).

We have a large collection of antique pie forks that we have accumulated over the past 30 years is the only reason I know a little on this subject.

Search "boxed pastry forks" and you will see what I mean.

Hi, the box has the AE Poston London emblem/stamp in the middle of the inside top of the box :) I haven't a clue about them ...... I've google searched them a number of times with no luck at all :|
