Title: ??? Early American Eagle Table
Post by: greenacres on May 07, 2012, 02:33:45 PM
Early American table. I would like a little info on this table. My friend would like to sell it, and doesn't know enough about it. It needs some fine tuning and she not sure what to ask price wise. I never seen one like it.

Can you try to get some history on this table !! I can`t find a thing yet !! And no trace to a carver or mfr. that I can find !!  Does it look like anything else was ever on the bottom ?? Numbers or anything ??  Will start again tomorrow !!

My friend lived in Germantown, Pa. maybe 40 yrs. ago. Neighbor friends were moving and didn't want to take it with them and gave her the table. The only other info is the patent pending on the bottom. My friend thought that dated the table maybe around 1910 or 1913. I assume the table was made in Philadelphia.

South Bend? It looks like Pat. Pend. or Pending from where I am sitting. Great piece. I would not sell it until I had a better idea. Unless you can get a very reputable auction to take it.

The one I found that had a similar description was made early 1900`s in South Bend Ind. Didn`t know till after I asked about history that it had a Philadelphia connection !!  I am going to PM Jacon4 and get him to look at it !!  He knows those east coast pieces !!

Thanks, so much! My friend thanks you too! ;D She been wanting to sell it for a while. She doesn't have room for it. But now she lost her Preius key and Toyota wants $350.00 to replace it. Are you kidding me. I think that's a bit much for a key. Now she really wants to sell the table., lol

I am assuming she is using a local dealer ?? Tell her to get on the phone and call Toyota !! If its a new car she should have been given two sets of keys !! If not,, Toyota will give her one or make the dealer give it to her !!   You might be surprised at what you can accomplish just going to another dealer even. Tell her not to sell that table now !!

Excellent advice Mart! Dealer parts people are motivated by commission. I took my Camry to a Toyota dealer to have my hood replaced after a paving stone flew off a truck an hit it. Better than my face. Toyota wanted 2000.00. I took the check and lived with the dent. Another estimate I got was 800.00.  If you complain to a manufacturer you can often get results. By the way I really like that table. I think it may be a centennial piece.

I have seen that table somewhere in a book,, but I am a total blank as to where !!  I PM`d Jacon4 to look at it since he knows the east coast and might recognize it !!

Thanks lol, I telling her to march over to that dealer and give that dealer a good sob story. ;D Then get tough, lol I'll tell her not to sell the table yet. She's really waiting to see what I can find out. Sue and her husband are both retired. I told her how to register to the website. I hope she's reading this, lol Sue has some really neat antiques. I'm having a senior moment!! Darn it!! Got it, I told her that her purple insulator could be valuable. On the Kovels website, they showed one that went for a lot of money. Couldn't remember the word insulator.

Hmmmm, well, since its not early american (1690-1800) i cant really offer any info as its out of my field of interest. Dont think i have ever seen one like it though, i am guessing its a coffee table?

Googled it, nada. I tried several search combinations but nothing similar turned up.

KC was right about the Butlers Table. The way it comes apart with the tray. I looked up Butlers Table nothing came up. I've been looking at all my books and haven't come across anything yet,

I tried Grand Rapids in one of my google searches as it was home to a great many furniture manufacturers at the turn of the 20th century but nothing showed up.

Okay....can you post some close ups of how the pieces are joined?

I think it is from mid 1900's  to 70's.  Reminds me of some I had seen being sold as novelty side tables at nice furniture stores.

I'll have to call my friend and ask her if I can get more photos tomorrow. I'll check other photos I took. Well that was finding a needle in a haystack., lol I'll also ask her what year she got the table.

Get a good pic of that carved center panel !! I am curious if its the same as the one on ebay !!  If that is a current listing on ebay,, click to watch it so you can see what the ending price is !! I didn`t look to see if it was current or ended !!  Or was it a BIN ??? Don`t remember !!

I think this piece was made somewhere in between the late 1950's through the 1970's & is 'machine-carved' ... if it had been a hand carved wood item , then that would be someting else .

There was a sim one recently , much less ornate (but same theme) , listed on the local Tacoma, Wa. craigslist with a broken glass on/in the tray-glass , for an asking price of $70 USD .

I'd think a person might be able to get 100-150 for the one in this posting , from the 'right' buyer , but I'm no expert on pricing these little guys !

I would think the patent pending on the back might date older. I can't picture that on a 70's table. It would have been more common when patents just started.

My friend wants to get as much as she can. If she sold the table she wouldn't ask that price, but start somewhere and she what she gets.
