It definitely is 19th century from the shape and wear. German most likely but I can't read the mark. It looks like a transfer design from around 1880-1900 my best guess.

What is the design in the mark ??  Looks like a church with a steeple to me !!

Is the lid porcelain or is it pewter?  Have seen items marked with martin prov hanley that are pewter!

Hanley would be British That should be easy.
