This hood was made for a specific job; it dates to a time before the turn of the 20th century. It is made from brass, leather, canvas, and glass. See picture. I just found out what it is. It's a bee keepers helmet. Thanks to all for the guesses. A friend of mine has this in her antique shop.

It looks like it might be a welder's mask. Other than that, ???

You could make an AWESOME costume with that! If you opt to sell it, I would market it to the steampunk crowd. They would go nuts for it!

I have never seen one like that but considering the way the eyes are made,, could be early welders helmet !! Where did you get this helmet or I should say how did you come by it ?? Bought, inherited or what ??

reminds me of an antique firefighters' mask/helmet! However, I seem to recollect that they made canvas diving suits....so it could be part of a diving suit!

Welding would be my guess, but maybe beekeeping?

Wonder why the top is made slanted like that? For an Asian welder talesof? LOL (I have 3 adopted Asian children so we got a kick out of this one!)

I'd guess something more for molten-metal/foundry work ... but it does look like an ungainly item to have to work in !
100% sure there's a buyer somewhere in the steampunk realm !

Looks as if it should be included with these...

I swear I saw something like that in a movie before. For some reason mad max comes to mind but I'm pretty sure it was a different movie that just kind of reminded me of mad max. Movie prop?
