Title: Marking on Japanese vase
Post by: Texasbadger on May 28, 2012, 05:46:49 PM
Hello you guys,

Not my normal thing but trying to get girlfriend to take interest in estate sales and collecting and she found this vase this weekend, Nice glaze to it and a single line of gold around bottom edge, has a Japanese chop seal with Japan underneath.  Any ideas as to what it means and value,,hoping to get her fired up to go digging!

Thanks

That mark looks modern. Not sure of the value. There is a mark very similar to yours on this Gotheborg page (check under "Unidentified seal marks" near the bottom of the page).

Thank you, the deceased prior owner was a first generation Japanese so you never knew if it was collectible or not even with export stamp

It is pretty modern,, probably 70`s or 80`s !!  Mark would indicate region made,, not necessarily what company made it !!  Would likely have had a paper label that was removed !!
